Our Year-End Recap: 2025 Trends in the Middle East Web3 Space

A busy year!

For the team here at BLegal, 2025 has been a busy year, with a steady increase in work across digital assets, FinTech, and broader financial-innovation projects entering the UAE and wider GCC. Much of our focus has centred on licensing and regulatory strategy, legal opinions, token structuring and whitepaper drafting — alongside supporting teams navigating multi-jurisdictional questions across VARA, ADGM, DIFC and the federal framework.

Key trends we observed in 2025.

We advised a wide range of founders, institutional players and international operators seeking clarity on how their products fit within the region’s regulatory environment. Compared to prior years, we saw more detailed and operational requests for guidance on Real-World Asset (RWA) tokenisation, stablecoin issuance, and payment-linked activity. Founders are increasingly aware that rigorous legal analysis early on can materially shape a project’s path—often saving months of rework later.

Our Conferences

Beyond client work, we continued to engage with the blockchain ecosystem through speaking commitments, regulatory collaborations and participation in industry discussions. From Web Summit Qatar to The Bitcoin Mena Conference and ADFW-Abu Dhabi Finance Week, one shift stood out clearly: institutional positioning around digital assets is accelerating. The question is no longer “Can we do it?”—but “How fast can we do it?” Cross-border payments and tokenisation (of just about everything) remain the dominant themes.

University Lectures in Geneva and Florence

We also contributed to several academic initiatives during the year. Our Founder, Erica Badocco, delivered guest lectures at the University of Geneva in Switzerland and the Università degli Studi di Firenze (University of Florence) in Italy. A special thank you to Prof. Jean-Marc Seigneur and Prof. Ettore Lombardi for the opportunity to present the “legal side of things” to the next generation of blockchain builders and enthusiasts.

These activities continue to demonstrate BLegal’s role as a specialised legal consultancy connecting global innovators with the regulatory frameworks shaping the Middle East’s digital-asset landscape.

What We Expect for Next Year

As we enter 2026, our focus remains consistent: providing rigorous, grounded legal support to help clients build in a way that is aligned with regulatory expectations, technically sound, and ready for long-term growth.
